Brahma Temple

Brahma Temple

  • A very fine but small temple dedicated to the creator god Brahma can also be found in the Eastern block of temples. It possesses a single shikhara (spire) and is made of granite. A four-faced linga is found in the shrine and has lead to the temple being worshipped as a house of Brahma. Nevertheless, some scholars believe that this temple was originally a Vishnu temple since there is a centrally carved Vishnu on the doorway. The temple is somewhat early and dates to perhaps the late 9th century. It is interesting because the color of the stone is brown and grey, making it visually distinct from other Hindu temples at Khajuraho.
